1997 Klein Mantra

I happened to run into a fellow by the name of Todd who loves these old Kleins. He had restored a 1997 Klein Mantra with all new xtr components and I just had to get his story.

Turns out he was in the market for a new full suspension bike, but there was nothing new that he liked for under $5,000. Not wanted to spend that kind of money, he turned to Craig's list and found this 1997 Kein Mantra. He put about $1,800 worth of upgraded components and voila, he has his new bike.

The bike looks brand new. The one thing that draws you to it is the unusual top tube. I wondered if the design would have created a heavy bike, but actually this bike is quite lite.

Todd says he likes the way it rides. He wants to paint it purple, but I told him I like it the way it is.

Anyway, thank Todd for the story and letting me take photos of his bike.

The video is of some trails near the dreamy draw. I was trying out a new technique so my father could see a bit more trail.

This Weekend

Quick FYI:

Cave Creek is having a biking event this weekend to help raise money to preserve more desert for hiking, biking etc. Anyway, click Cave Creek Bicyle Festival for details.

Also, Fountain hills is having an arts festival Fountain Hills Arts Festival too.

I will go out to do the  Sport Loops while my honey spends money.

Never done the Cave Creek park. Some say it's rocky as heck, other's say no. Will have to find out for myself.

Posted some local photos.One is of seven springs area near Carefree/Cave Creek. Sycamore forrest area nearby that a lot of folks do not know exists. Save the wild spaces while we can.

Xena - tougher than I am

This little girl had 18 teeth removed the other day and here she is happily running around already.

Her breath is much better and she stopped whining at night. Couldn't understand why she was being so needy the past week or so. Guess she was in pain from all those bad teeth.

She's had bad breath for awhile. Guess you should brush their teeth two or three times a day. I haven't always done this for myself, let alone my dog.  I was told that Xena was prone to bad teeth from birth as her teeth were always crooked. We fed her dry food, but the mismatched teeth got no benefit. Still, I was clueless about doggy toothpaste, doggy mouth wash and doggy tooth brushing. Sorry, Xena.

Another season ends without reaching Point Sublime

Another October 15th has come and gone and I still have yet to reach Point Sublime or even ride anywhere near the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

Ever since I first read about the isolated spot on the north rim, I have been wanting to mountain bike to it. Reaching the point should be little more difficult than completing a Pemberton loop.

Always have excuses, like I don't want to do it alone. It's difficult to get away from work during the summer months. I wasn't in shape this year. Too many projects for the house.

I will have to make it someday soon. Anyway, I was heartened today. The ride was getting much easier for me. I rode early morning from Tatum on trail 100 and 8.  The cooler temps and probably riding my Outcast to work each contributed to my ability to enjoy the workout.

May 15th is just around the corner. I will be a father by then. Maybe I won't even want to attempt this season.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the ride on trail 100  today. Started at Tatum. I was stronger and more energetic than the last few times. I am certain that the cooler temperatures and riding my Outcast to work both contributed to my increased abilities today. One thing I can say about 29ers. They are like a longer pair of skis. All the benefits and disadvantages come with the bigger wheels.
