Jury Duty

I spent the day on a Jury yesterday. Wish I could say it was time well spent and that I felt I performed my civic duty, but I can't.

I'll summarize and speculate the case for you.

This couple had their forth child in five years.  The man was outside working on his motorcycle instead of helping out the woman with the newborn. This pissed her off causing an argument. She damages the bike and he tears her favorite neck-lass off her neck. He probably chucks it into the canal or a dumpster. She calls the cops and has him arrested for theft.

That was the case. Sure he was guilty but what a bunch of b.s. waste of our time. Anyway, I wish I knew what the judge decided for punishment.

New Two Hippies on 24th st and Indianschool

Last night I got a pizza from the new Two Hippies on the SW corner of 24th st and Indianschool. Sure beat the old pizza joint. I watched the guy hand toss my crust. Funky decor too.

Talked to a nice young man who worked there. Said the two hippies are the husband and wife who started the place. They have rolled out quite a few of these hippie joints in a relatively short time.  The young man explained that this was the same family that started 'Long Wongs'. Explains why everyone likes the buffalo wings. Goes far in explaining the decor.  The young man also revealed that their expansion plans include Tucson and Flagstaff.

Twelve bucks for any 16 inch or seven bucks for any 12 inch was not too shabby considering all the toppings. We got a half and half of two popular choices. No extra cost. You can also buy a slice but you don't get the funky choices; with a slice you are limited to the old standards of cheese,  pepperoni or sausage.

Anyway, I give the hippies a thumbs up and a peace sign.

Anti-Mountain Bike Advocate Attacks Cyclists With Handsaw

This was a story that caught my eye. I also found this guys site.

While I can appreciate the 'leave no trace' philosophy, overall I believe that the majority of mountain bikers love and respect nature.

As a group, mountain bikers have done as much as any other group to help preserve wild places. We have mourned the loss of the original cactus cup  to golf courses and the red mountain area trails to developers.

Most of us do not 'blaze' new trails, we simply ride in our designated areas. Overall, the sport helps spawn interest in nature which in turn helps preserve it.

Anti-Mountain Bike Advocate Attacks Cyclists With Handsaw

And that right there, readers, is the most bizarre headline we've ever typed. Noted -- noted! -- anti-mountain bike crusader Mike Vandeman was "arrested yesterday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after he attacked a pair of mountain bikers with a handsaw."

According to UC police, a pair of mountain bikers were cycling on a fire road in the hills above the UC Berkeley campus. A hiker — Mike Vandeman — struck one of the cyclists with a saw, cutting him across the chest. East Bay mountain bikers have reported other similar attacks on them, and some mountain bikers I know have expressed concern for their personal safety when Mike Vandeman is around.

The harrowing incident, according to UC Berkeley police, happened on May 15.
Why does Vanderman loathe those who ride on the dirty and dusty trails? Well, maybe because it'sbad for the trails and mother nature? Or because it conflicts with his desire to hike on anti-bike trails he wants to himself. Or because purple pony princesses like salty cracker neon beets. Who knows, exactly. (If you guessed 'all of the above,' you would be correct. Seriously, have a looksie.)

Cyclelico.us goes on to point out that Vanderman gained gained attention in the 90s via his Usenet postings to wreck.bikes in which he painted mountain bikers as "addicted, narcissistic, violently insane liars."
